గుంటూరు దేశంలోనే అతిపెద్ద ఎండు మిరప యార్డు — దిగుమతి, ఎగుమతి వ్యాపారులు, కోల్డ్ స్టోరేజ్లు అక్కడే కేంద్రీకృతం. అక్కడ ఏర్పడే ధరే మిగతా ప్రాంతానికి సూచిక. అనంతపురం, పక్క యార్డుల ధరలు గుంటూరు ధరను అనుసరిస్తాయి — రవాణా, స్థానిక రాకల తేడా మాత్రమే మధ్య ఉంటుంది. అందుకే గుంటూరులో ధర పడిపోతే ఇక్కడ కూడా పడిపోతుంది; పైకి వెళితే ఇక్కడ కూడా వెళ్తుంది.

There is no single dry chilli price. It moves by variety and by grade — Teja and Byadgi types trade at different rates, and within one variety, colour, the share of broken pods and pod fullness move the rate again. So do not ask "what is the chilli price" — ask for the price of your variety, at your grade.
Guntur runs the country's largest dry-chilli yard — exporters, big traders and the cold stores are all concentrated there, and the rate struck there is the reference for the whole region. Prices in Anantapur and the nearby yards follow Guntur, with only transport and local arrivals between them. So when Guntur falls, the local price falls; when it rises, the local price rises.
Dry chilli can be held in cold storage, so you do have the option of sitting out a glut. But it is not free: storage charges, interest on the money locked up, and some weight loss all come off the top.
